Motorcycle Approved Eyewear

eye-bar carries and has access to the complete line of motorcycle approved sunglasses and goggles by Wiley-X. Wiley-X specializes in ballistic grade eyewear and clothing and is a leading supplier of motorcycle eyewear. The Wiley-X lenses and frames are made from impact resistant materials that meet the ANSI Z87.1 and Z80.3 optical standards. The Wiley-X brand is trusted in the safety eyewear industry and is used extensively by Suncor Energy in its Fort-McMurray operations to protect the vision of its employees. Many Wiley-X styles include a wrap around design, with replaceable foam gasket inserts. These replaceable gaskets help to reduce irritation from wind, dust, debris and peripheral glare. Many of the Wiley-X motorcycle collection eyewear pieces are available in both prescription and non-prescription styles.

To experience the Wiley-X high velocity protection eyewear collection visit eye-bar in Sherwood Park. While you’re there, you can also book your next eye exam or contact lens fitting with one of our eye-bar optometrists, to ensure that you see all the potholes and obstacles on the road this motorcycle season.

Optical Ilusions in Nature

Have you ever wondered why a zebra has stripes?

You’d think such dramatic colouring would actually draw attention to the zebra. Last time we went to the zoo, we were walking by two zebras and almost missed seeing them. Why? Because they were standing still!  When a zebra stands still the stripes on its coat blend in with the grass and twigs around it and actually make it harder to see.  And when a herd of zebras move together their stripes create such a mesmerizing image that the predators get confused.  So, while they don’t have much chance of outrunning their predators (the big cats like cheetahs, lions and leopards), the zebras try their best to confuse them.  And, sometimes, if they’re lucky, the zebras will outsmart the cats.

Can you spot the zebras hiding in this photo?

How young can my child have their eyes checked?

At eye-bar, we recommend that children begin annual eye health exams by age 3. However, we are certainly happy to see children as young as 6 month of age should you have any questions or concerns or a strong family history of vision problems.

Annual eye health exams are important to ensure that your child’s visual system is developing properly. We live, work and learn in a very visual world. Having inadequate vision can lead to learning problems in early developmental years and the classroom because of lack of concentration and focus.

Eye exams for children are fun and painless. At eye-bar, we take pediatric eye care seriously with multiple eye charts, movies and cool looking instruments to keep your children entertained and focused.  eye-bar also offers both male and female optometrists on staff for you to choose from. Visit our Childrens Eye Exam section for more details.

Tom Davies: Custom Bespoke Eyewear

At eye-bar, we’ve been customizing eyewear from the day we opened. As an independent eyewear store, we have infinite options when it comes to selecting the right lenses for you (many chain and discount optical stores use a stock lens that doesn’t necessarily work on everyone). Finding the right lenses for each individual client makes us smile. And now, we can perfectly customize eyewear. Yup, that’s right! eye-bar is now offering bespoke eyewear. We can take any frame from the Tom Davies collection and re-design it to fit your face, head and prescription. The result? A made-to-measure frame designed and built to fit you perfectly.

Bespoke eyewear goes well-beyond fit; it’s about style too. Drawing from an existing range of shapes, finishes and about 60 colours, you can work alongside our opticians to design a custom-made frame. Once you’ve made your selections, our opticians will create a blueprint for your frames. Four to six weeks later, these frames can be on your face.

Press: FASHION Magazine names EYE-BAR the place for eyewear in Edmonton

FASHION Magazine featured where to find the best baubles, hats and specs across Canada. The best place for eyewear in Edmonton? … right here at eye-bar in Sherwood Park. The FASHION Magazine writers took a particular liking to our vintage eyewear Victory Collection and the unbelievable style and fit knowledge of our opticians. And, Dr. Ross McKenzie and Dr. Amy Bakelaar were smitten to see their names in print… in a f-a-s-h-i-o-n magazine!

This Sherwood Park optic shop isn’t playing name games when it comes to its décor. Sit at three different eye-bars and choose from Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch, Kenneth Cole or Lacoste, among others. Dr. Ross McKenzie and Dr. Amy Bakelaar ensure only the best opticians are there to help you make your selection. And as one of only three Canadian locations to house The Victory Collection – which makes exact, light-weight frame replicas from its ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s catalogues – you might start up a vintage romance.

Pick up a copy of the Winter 2012 issue of Fashion Magazine to read all the details.
